I have worked as an independent teacher
teaching visiting fellows and visiting scholars at
the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center
for over 10 years. My private students there have been government officials and business leaders from China, Japan, and South Korea.
Private students have included a visiting scholar at
the Hoover Institution and graduate students in law and business.
Private students have included physicists, physicians,
and medical students.
Private students have included people from Cisco, Fujitsu, Genentech, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Hyundai, IBM, Intel, Mazda, Mitsubishi, NEC, NYK Line, Samsung, Sony, Sumitomo, and Toshiba.
Students have included the chairman of the board of an automaker,
a general manager, scientists, and engineers.
Private students have included executives at
the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China,
the Bank of Japan,
and the Development Bank of Japan.
Private students have included government officials from the Japan Patent Office, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry — Japan, the Ministry of Finance — Japan, and PetroChina.
Private students have included patent examiners, a former
Senior Secretary for Public Relations, and a former congressman.
I taught English at companies in Japan and ESL classes at the University of Piura in Peru where my students included university students, professors, and the president of the university.
